Sony may wait for Microsoft

Rumors are constantly flying about what is going on with the next-gen consoles. No one knows definitely when Microsoft and Sony will unveil the Xbox and PlayStation, but Sony CEO Kazuo Hirai has said that they will let Microsoft make the first move. "Why go first, when your competitors can look at your specifications and come up with something better?"
Since there would be relatively little time for changing the specs of the PlayStation this late in its development cycle, it's more likely that the additional time would be used to adjust marketing, and the messaging surrounding the announcement. It is also currently being rumored that with the PlayStation 4, Sony will retire the DualShock controller.
